ephemera memories

Recently I came across the work of Jen Blazina and fell in love. She makes beautiful pieces combining print and reclaimed objects. On her website she writes than some of her work "recalls the significance of ephemera of time and portrait".
I feel at home looking at these installations, mimicking personal shapes of lockets, pocket watches, and elaborate portrait frames.

Right now, I am in love with these installations by Daniella Woolf. Such beautiful pieces and a total inspiration to me; such a lovely interpretation of how to display and work with amassed collected objects. I love their simplicity and how when they are combined they form something intricate and strong. They become something that feels personal, though it may not be our own.

I am in love with Anna Hepler and her beautiful prints and drawings. Such a gorgeous style that I'm totally jealous of and have never been able to employ. Simple, yet intricate. Delicate but strong. I dig it.

Totally unrelated, but I just have to tell you that I almost flipped the other day when I saw these photos of Drew Berrymore at the tiff premiere of her new movie Whip It! She's wearing my most coveted dress ever, by Alexander McQueen. What a lucky bitch! It's amazing. She looks great. I won't even get into my jealousy over all the John Galliano creations she's gotten to wear as of lately. I'm even kind of feeling the hair, it's very Berlin.

On a completely different note, since the weather has been so nice I have been spending many afternoons and evenings lounging in the backyard. All the flowers are still blooming and it's just so fragrant and peaceful.

Not a single day has gone by when I haven't had a visit from the cutest little hummingbird I've ever seen. He likes munching on our blooming hummingbird vine, butterfly bushes and super tall cannas. He's so precious! The other day he flew over and hovered just a few inches away from my face. I'm convinced he is attracted to my red hair.

Did you know that they build their nests with spiderwebs? I just learned that today. So neat.

I don't know why I am currently so in love art using stones, but I found these gorgeous stones covered with intricately patterned ink drawings by artist Yoran Morvant.

I want a whole pile of these bad boys.

My work references rocks and stones a lot, since they were the first thing I ever obsessively collected as a child. The juxtaposition of graphic elements with natural ones has been something I've always struggled with, but I couldn't think of a more elegant way to interpret that than adding graphic elements on a natural surface. Beautiful.

covered stones

Currently I'm obsessed with Resurrection Fern and her knit covered stones. So beautiful!

Artists love looking at artwork, it's just a part of who we are. There is work that you love and work that you covet, and then there is work that you see and makes you immediately want to go create your own. Usually my computer has a conglomeration of photos of spaces and peices that inspire me to go throw a pencil to paper and just go crazy.

Some things I love

Beautiful work by Michelle Moode. I can't tell you how inspiring her work is to me and how much I love it. I'm so drawn to things handmade, hand stitched and the incorporation of found objects (probably because that's how I work as well). When put into groups and collections, these peices become so warm and cozy.
